Ivy Rose Vidal of Batan, Aklan was crowned Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan 2012 in a star-studded finale night organized by pageant organizer Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi) in Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Sports and Cultural Center on January 6.
Vidal, 22, a graduate of Garcia College of Technology, bested 15 other aspirants for the title. She replaces last year’s Mutya winner Caren Retamar Braun, also a Garcian student. The new Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan was voted Miss Photogenic and awarded Miss Juicy Cologne and Miss Creamsilk.
Liezl Dumaguin, 20, of Buruanga, Aklan, was picked first runner-up and 16-year old Fil-Lebanese Daisy Batch of Balete, Aklan came in third. Batch won a number of corporate awards for Miss Magnolia Light, Miss Silka, Miss E-Looks and Miss Ponds, special award for Miss Personality and minor award for Best in Vogue White.
Shem Regalado, 25, of Kalibo, Aklan was proclaimed Lakan it Kalibo Ati-Atihan 2012, besting 15 other finalists for the much-coveted title. He was named Mr. Maribert Inland Resort, Mr. Axe and the minor award for Best in Malayan Barong.
Ramon Alexis Daguno, 22, representing Ibajay, Aklan settled for first runner-up and Elvin Tiel, 19, of Tangalan, Aklan placed second runner-up. Daguno received three minor awards – Best in Talent, Best in Swimwear and Best in Production Number, special award for Mr. Photogenic and two corporate awards for Mr. Black Water and Mr. Kapuso.
Among the judges this year were GMA-7 actress Bella Padilla, commercial model/actor Dennis Coronel, Miss Resorts World Manila 2011 first runner-up Ladylyn Riva, Department of Education Aklan Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Jesse Gomez, fashion designer Renee Salud, TV5 talent Jan Arnex Florece, Capiz province Vice Governor Esteban Evan Contreras II, 1987 Mutya it Aklan Jerly Trance Villaruel and Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Kalibo Branch manager Roscoe Rey Navarra.
The five-hour pageant was hosted by Gaynor Calizo and GMA-7 Ratsada reporter Rey Jason Gregorio. GMA-7 RnB singer and mainstay of Party Pilipinas Kris Lawrence also serenaded thousands of audience and the 16 Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan finalists with his song “Kung Malaya lang Ako’ and Bruno Mar’s Just the way you are.
A stylized opening production number featuring the Kasafi dance company and the 32 finalists dressed in Amazon look and Earth warriors’ attire started the pageant with lots of excitement while local singers Mary Krisdel Panadero and Melky Arboleda also took part in the opening numbers of the exciting pageant.
Before the winners were announced, tourism students of Jeju National University of South Korea showcased their dancing prowess. Also joining the crowning of the winners of Mutya it Lakan it Kalibo Ati-Atihan 2012 were Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores, Kalibo mayor William Lachica, Kalibo vice mayor Madeline Regalado and Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Jose Enrique Miraflores.
